Cold sore cures for beginners
Many of us have suffered from cold sores but then we might not have an idea about what actually cold sore is. This article will act as a guide.
Fever blister is another name for cold sore and it is a painful ulcer which you would find near the lips or the nostrils. It can also occur in places like cheeks, chin or finger tips and even on the gum or roof of the mouth. The main cause is herpes simplex virus type 1 or type 2.
Cold sore cures: A cold sore would get cured automatically within 7 to 10 days but then there are medications and home remedies also available which make the curing process faster. For faster cure you can try out the following:
a) Topical anti viral creams: The creams that are available in the market are:
i) Denavir which is approved by FDA and application as per prescription helps immensely in the healing process
ii) Acyclovir: This is also approved by FDA and if properly used then it will reduce the time of healing by about half a day
iii) Famciclovir: It is always better to start it off on the first outbreak because then you can get relief soon enough
iv) Valacyclovir: This is also helpful for stopping the virus from spreading more
b) Home remedies:
i) Ice is an excellent home remedy to be used cold sore cures. It helps to lessen the swelling as well as the pain.
ii) Appling hot towel suppression is another good method of healing a cold sore which has opened up. Use either a warm tea bag or a warm damp cloth for quick healing
iii) To quicken up the healing process when it has already started keep the area clean by wiping it off regularly with cotton balls soaked in alcohol.
All these methods would indeed make healing faster.
