Cold Sore Remedies

Apart from being painful, the cold sores are highly contagious. Moreover, there are no permanent cures for cold sore. However, taking certain precautions can help you to avoid getting exposed to the herpes simplex virus type 1 and 2 that causes these fever blisters.
You can conveniently opt for any reputed cold sore medication available in the market. Though they cannot cure the lip sore and fever bristles completely, they will help you to reduce the severity and pain. Moreover, the cold sore medicine also helps to lessen the frequency of its outbreak as well as shorten the duration of the breakout.
Moisturizing agents are also helpful in controlling lip sores. They help to keep the scabs soft and thus prevent them from cracking and bleeding.
In addition to these medicines you can also use some simple home remedy for cold sores. Apply ice for at least 30 minutes on the affected area, as soon as you feel the tingling sensation of a new outbreak. Try to repeat this process several times in a day. Applying tea bags is also an effective cold sore home remedy. The benefits of these remedies are:
- Ice will help to drop the temperature of the affected tissue and thus prevents the cold sore formation by disrupting the metabolic rate of the sore.
- Ice will stop or at least reduce the pain.
- Tea contains tannic acid that has anti-viral properties and thus stops the blisters from forming.
