Things You Need to Know about Cold Sore

Cold sore is a blister or group of blisters that appear on your lips or around the nose. They are often referred as fever blisters. The cold sore is usually small and filled with fluid. Sometimes they are extremely painful. In fact, the fluids ooze and crust over the affected area. However, before discussing about the various cures for cold sore, you need to know certain important factors about lip sore and fever blisters.
The Symptoms:
Though fever blisters usually appear around or on the lips, you may also have them on or inside your nose, chin or cheek. Generally the skin of the affected area burns, itches and tingles before the blisters actually appear. People often mistake the fluid filled fever blisters as chapped lips or pimples.
The Causes:
It is the Herpes Simplex Virus that causes a cold sore. This virus is also known as HSV-1. The lip sore and fever blisters usually appear with three weeks, once this virus gets activated with your nerve cells. You can either use medicine or home remedy for cold sores to heal them quickly. However, they last for at least ten days.
The herpes simplex virus type 1 is highly contagious and you can easily get exposed to it by sharing utensils with an affected person, or even by kissing. However, there are many cold sore medication options and you can easily opt for them.
